Monk Seal Ceremony

Here is the letter from Monk Seal Supporters from Kauai. I wish I could go to the ceremony...

Aloha Hawaiian monk seal volunteers and supporters,

Please put a note on your calendar and join us for a "Ceremony for the Hawaiian Monk Seals".

  • to remember all our lost seals,
  • to dedicate ourselves to caring for all of life on land and in the sea, which we are all a part of.
  • Come Thursday morning June 18 at Poipu beach park from 9 to 11.

Sabra Kauka and others will guide us as we gather to remember these special animals.

  • We will ask forgiveness and release the seal's ashes to the ocean. If you have a surf board, canoe or kayak please paddle out with us.
  • We will then rededicate ourselves to the care and future of the Hawaiian monk seals, and acknowledge our relatedness to them. As Sabra reminds us, "We want all of God's creatures to live. We share our lives with them, and the seals have a special place on earth with us".

Media personnel will most likely be present.

  • We ask that if approached for comments, please decline from interviews.
  • Let this ceremony be about the seals, and all of us as a united community caring for them, not about our individual positions.
  • Sabra and a few people will have prepared statements about the seals, our relationships with these seals that we have lost due to the many impacts of humanity, and our collective rededication to care for the seals and their marine home...especially two new pups were born last week!
Aloha nui loa,

Mimi and the Hawaiian Monk Seal Conservation Hui

They still need your support to find the person(s) killed the Monk Seals.
