Monk Seal Reward Funds

カウアイ島で先日何者かによって、２頭のHawaiian Monk Sealが射殺されるという事件がありました。お母さんとそのベイビーのようです。お母さんシールの方は、妊娠していたという情報もあります。Hawaiian Monk Sealは、絶滅の危機にさらされていますが、なんとものんびり屋で、ビーチに横たわって日向ぼっこなんかをしてるんです。私の家の近くのビーチにも時々現れます。巨大ですが、本当にかわいいです。

銃で撃つなんていう、残酷なことを誰がどうしてしたのか理解できないし、怒りを感じます。現在、Sunf Rider Kauai (http://surfriderkauai.ning.com/) というグループが、なんとか犯人逮捕に繋がる情報を集めようと賞金を募る募金をしています。私も少ないながら協力させていただきました。少しでも犯人を捕まえる助けになればと思っています。今日、お礼状とその後の報告が届きました。

Aloha Monk Seal Reward Fund Donor, I wanted to pass along the the latest update to you and again give our thanks for your support or the Monk Seal Reward Fund. Total Pledges and Donations so far = $10,890 And 1 Custom Cruzer Bike From Kekaha Bike Shop, Value $600 This would not have been possible without your support. I just finished a phone interview with Coco Zickos at the Garden Island, I expect her to publish an update tomorrow or Sunday. I specifically mentioned to her the nice notes from some of the donors and their concerns for the Endangered Hawaiian Monk Seal. I also explained that if there is no conviction, then donated funds will go towards furthering Monk Seal Conservation and Education. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to e-mail me. If you are interested in coming to our Kaua'i Chapter meeting of the Surfrider Foundation you would be very welcome. We have a meeting the second Sunday of every month.
